Grok Bot 101: The Free Course · Lesson 5 of 10
Connect your calendar so your bot can plan your family's week
How do you get Grok Bot to read your calendar and plan your family's week?
Connect your calendar, tell the bot it may only read it unless you say yes, and ask for one short Sunday note: what's happening each day, who needs to be where, and any clashes. It can also find appointments and school notes in your email and add them to the same note. It doesn't add, move or cancel anything unless you say yes.
What you'll build
A Family Planner bot that sends you a week-ahead note every Sunday, with clashes at the top and anything from your email that isn't on the calendar yet.
About 20 minutes to set up, then a few minutes each Sunday.

Why this is worth your time
The problem
Family schedules live in three places: the calendar, the school emails and somebody's head. Something always slips, like a pickup, a dentist visit or two things at the same time.
What a Grok Bot can do now
A dad of three has one bot keep the family calendar and tell the nanny when a kid's game is cancelled. Another dad made a second Google account just for his bot and shares only the calendars it needs. One user asked his bot to find where he last got a haircut. It found the old appointment on his calendar and booked a new one when he was free.
Why this works now
You don't need to set up any calendar rules. You ask in plain words, the bot reads everything at once, and you get one short list. Because it asks before it adds anything, your calendar stays yours.

Questions people ask
Can the bot change my calendar?
Once your calendar is connected, it can add and change events, so this lesson gives it a rule: read first, and when it finds something to add, show you the event and wait for your OK.
Should I connect my main Google account?
You can, but you don't have to. One dad made a second Google account just for his bot and shared only the family calendar with it. That way the bot sees only what it needs.
Can it message my family or the babysitter?
Not in this lesson. If you want that later, have it draft the message and show it to you first, and only send after you say yes.
Does this work with Apple or Outlook calendars?
This lesson uses Google Calendar, which Grok Bot can connect to directly. For Apple or Outlook calendars, ask your bot, “Can you connect to my [Apple or Outlook] calendar, and how?” The list of apps you can connect changes over time.
