Grok Bot 101: The Free Course · Lesson 3 of 10

Save a task you repeat so one sentence runs the whole thing

How do you save a task in Grok Bot so one sentence runs it again?

Do the task once with your bot until the result is right, then ask the bot to save it as a skill with a short name. A skill is a saved set of instructions. After that, asking for it by name runs the whole thing the same way, in any chat. A weekly bills check is a good first one: the bot reads your last 7 days of email, lists every bill and renewal with the amount and due date, and flags anything that went up. It never pays or cancels anything.

What you'll build

A saved “bills check” task. You say “run bills check” and get a table of every bill and renewal from the last week, with anything due soon or more expensive at the top.

About 15 minutes to set up, then one sentence each time you run it.

Why this is worth your time

The problem

Most of us repeat the same little jobs every week and type the same long instructions each time. Or we skip the job, and a renewal or price rise slips through.

What a Grok Bot can do now

One user's bot read 16,100 emails going back to 2009 and pulled out 33 bills and renewals. Another gave his bot one standing monthly job: find every expense receipt and draft one email to his accountant. The first run gathered 25 PDFs. A third user ran a ready-made skill that found her phone number on data-broker sites and filed the opt-out requests.

Why this works now

You only explain the task once. After that it runs the same way every time, so you don't forget a step, and because it only reads, nothing gets paid or cancelled behind your back.

Questions people ask

What is a skill in Grok Bot?

A skill is a saved, reusable set of instructions with a name. You ask your bot to save one, and after that you run it by asking for it by name or by describing the task. Skills are shared by all your bots, so another bot can run it too, as long as it can reach the same connected apps. In this lesson you also ask the bot to read the skill back to you, so you know exactly what it will do.

Will the bot pay or cancel my bills?

No. The first rule you give it is that it only reads. It lists what it found, and you pay or cancel anything yourself.

What if the bot doesn't find my skill?

Ask it, “Do you have a skill called bills check?” If it doesn't, paste the setup file from this lesson into the chat and say, “Save this as a skill called bills check.”

What other tasks can I save this way?

Anything you repeat: a weekly school email check, a monthly receipts roundup for your accountant, or a list of free weekend activities. Start with one, get it right, then add more.
